Working for a nonprofit, I'm finding out that entrepreneurship is even more important. With separate tax codes and increased transparency requirements, I find myself worrying about how data is recorded and filed as much as how it helps my business.

I have a marketing and finance background, and am now in charge of all fundraising for an exciting young theater company in Chicago, which includes corporate sponsorships, individual donations and grants. As a young professional, I find that the combination of finance, technology and people skills is very well served in this position.
I'm interested in leadership skills and experience and how that translates to successful organizations. I'm also fascinated by new media and how it is taking out the middle-man in most transactions. Consumers are becoming enabled to get what they want when they want it, which makes a night at a live performance at a specific time a challenging proposition. But I truly feel that the arts can give people a sense of Community that isn't found in any other facet of society.
I'm also interested in work/life balance, and how that seems to be changing. I remember that for my dad, work/life balance meant that he was able to leave work behind at 5, and have his weekends free to do what he wants. For me, I have an enjoyable, flexible job, and I feel that a good work/life balance is interwoven into every hour of every day. With my Blackberry on my hip, I feel like I have an opportunity to keep communication open with my job. My relationships with customers can become personal, rather than 9-5 only.
