Arbitrators & Mediators

Arbitrators and mediators provide an alternative to law suits for settling disputes. They deal with participants in a dispute. They make sure everyone understands the process. Arbitrators and mediators gather information and evidence so that they know the issues and possible outcomes. This group will collaborate on best practices, provide case referrals to each other and share informational resources.

Benefits of Consultant-think

Tip #123: Think like a consultant. Search for a new job like a consultant.
Why think like a consultant if you're looking for a full time job?
Because today's hiring managers hire consultants and Full Time Employees the same way, and look for the same thing. Most full time jobs today can be filled by a consultant or an employee, and there's not all that much of a difference in cost.

Which Subject Matter am I an Expert at?

An early challenge job changers face is determining who they are professionally.
If you've been in the workforce 5 years or more, you've had LOTS of areas where you could demonstrate expertise. Depending on your career, this could be even less than 5 years.
Maybe you're an expert at Post merger integration, Turnarounds, FAS 133, Ruby programming, Project Management for windows infrastructure, Human Resource wellness programs, Selling technology services or Managing design teams using modern CAD programs to build hospitals.

A Welcome Decision for Online Video Sites

Today, TechCrunch reported about the ruling in a case against video site Veoh: What The Veoh Decision Means For YouTube and Others.

Even though I do not run a video-sharing website (we do not allow users to upload video), I welcome the judgment for a few reasons.

The Soft Stuff is the Hard Stuff

In 1999 I was Communications Manager for the World Bank's enterprise resource planning (erp) initiative. We were gutting over 100 disconnected systems and replacing them with a single real-time application. At the behest of our Steering Committee, I hired Michael Hammer, the international best-selling author of Reengineering the Corporation, to come and speak to our people. We negotiated him to 50% of his regular fee, which was still almost 10% of my total budget. I was not happy about that.

Racing Against Rats

This blog looks at management decisions, not by the executives, but by the people who work under them. Who is doing what to get where, and when does it make sense? How often does a good intention fail?

And if something succeeds, why?

Truth of life in a city that refuses to sleep.
